"I think the primary objectives that we see and hear from our customers are managing risk and increasing compliance in the best legal outcomes. There are a lot of different levers you have to pull to get those, but underlying a lot of that is what I call operational objectives. These are things that really help support achieving those primary objectives. They tend to be more on the business or operational side."
"How does legal create competitive advantage? ... Collaborating with different business units in a way that facilitates corporate strategic execution. Optimizing the overall spend of the organization and not just reducing spend but aligning spend with those areas where you’re actually getting the best business outcomes."
"The law firms are getting better about budgeting, but without more information, they’re still budgeting for perhaps a different scope than you had in mind. It’s something that we felt could really be improved."
"We’re being asked to collaborate more with our internal departments, to not always be the no team, but actually to help create more of a competitive advantage within our organization by streamlining processes, being more collaborative and being a better overall business partner with groups like the HR department."
Executive Spotlight: Margaret Kelsey. Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary, Modine Manufacturing Company. Modine has established and publicly disclosed multiple “enduring goals.” We created these goals to guide our decisions toward long-term success for us and our shareholders. We are at a point now where we are ready to complete some growth initiatives across the globe. It is my hope and expectation that the Legal Department will be a significant partner in these efforts while at the same time continuing to improve our underlying core processes to ensure that Modine stays on top of its legal responsibilities and avoids legal pitfalls.
