Neil Farquharson, Product Marketing Manager at Zix Corporation, discussed email protection and the importance of using security solutions to safeguard employee emails during his presentation at the 2015 Chief Information Security Officer Leadership Lunch in Dallas on Oct. 21. In his presentation, Farquharson noted that today’s organizations must find ways to protect employee emails that they can access from their mobile devices at any time.
According to Farquharson, data breaches are quickly becoming common for organizations of all sizes. However, he pointed out that password management tools can help an organization safeguard its sensitive data. Farquharson also said email encryption technologies can help an organization safeguard employee emails against malware, viruses and other cyber threats: “Everybody in this network is already being protected by some kind of central authority. We know that if we send an email to someone else within the community of trust, we can trust them if you like. And this is what’s meant by transparent email encryption.”
Farquharson pointed out that transparent encryption is key, particularly for organizations that have implemented bring-your-own-device policies. With transparent encryption, he said organizations can secure employee emails without impacting employee productivity: “With transparent encryption, the person at the other end receives the e-mail that is already in the red box and are able to read nice and easily. And the only thing that’s giving away that it was encrypted while in transit across the proper Internet is the blue banner or something similar depending upon the banner that you choose that says ‘this e-mail was encrypted while in transit.'”
