Jaspreet Singh, co-founder, chairman of the board and CEO of Druva, discussed data security during a Thought Leadership Spotlight Presented by Druva at the 2014 Chief Information Officer Leadership Forum in Chicago on June 19. In his presentation, “How to Defend Your Data in the Wild,” Singh pointed out data loss is problematic for both big and small enterprises today.
According to Singh, huge chunks of data can cause productivity loss and force enterprises to deal with compliance and legal issues. He also pointed out data loss forces enterprises to understand the impact of the loss and how to prevent this problem from happening again. He noted, however, data is much more important than the device in today’s mobile workplace: “Device management is important, but device is pretty much a window to your data. It’s not that the device is going to be very transient in the nature of a person doing his work … The data and the essential data is what is the most important.”
Singh said his company has succeeded in today’s global marketplace because it has created a unique product to help enterprises manage their data and prevent data loss. In addition, he noted Druva allows enterprises to manage productivity loss from a user in the field: “Druva built a very clean way to back up the content. It’s a very structured way to make sure the backup is very aware of multiple geographies like Europe or the US, aware of different 3G cards, aware of different devices, different network types, different user behaviors or when they are productive and non-productive. We build a very custom experience for the mobility workforce.”
