Robert Humphrey, Chief Marketing Officer at ForgeRock, described the importance of identity management for organizations and its impact on IT security during his presentation at the 2015 Chief Information Officer Leadership Forum in Los Angeles on Feb. 10. In his presentation, Humphrey noted that “identity is at the center of everything” an organization does.
According to Humphrey, launching an identity management system across an organization can help a business protect its employees and customers. In addition, Humphrey pointed out that taking a business-centric approach to identity management can help ensure that an organization can protect its data: “The first thing is single identity across all your customers, all your employees; everything is absolutely critical. I bet you that if you’re thinking of your own businesses or your own customer base, it doesn’t happen very often. There are not a lot of big organizations that truly have a single view of the customer across because businesses have grown by acquisition; they’ve got another identity system over here.”
Humphrey also noted that identity management requires an organization to be contextually aware. If an organization can incorporate identity management tools into its operations, Humphrey said, it can bolster its IT security levels as well: “Security is no longer just about threat detection and blocking, an integrated identity strategy and capability into the overall perimeter stuff you have to protect day in and day out, but expanding that out and including identity into part of that.”
