Bhupesh Arora, Head of New Technologies and Application Services at Avery Dennison Corporation, discussed the opportunities that IT provides to an organization during his presentation at the 2015 Chief Information Officer Leadership Forum in Los Angeles on Feb. 10. In his presentation, Arora noted that IT enables collaboration, and ultimately, can help employees become more productive and efficient. Arora pointed out that change is constant in IT. However, Arora said that change can drive IT innovation and allow an organization to transform its operations. In addition, Arora stated that IT needs to examine its culture to drive change and innovation: “We looked at where the future is in terms of change and innovation and who’s going to win. There is our thinking out here on what resonates more with the culture. And the idea was to make the big change.” According to Arora, IT is becoming increasingly mobile, which can sometimes create challenges for an organization. But if IT promotes communication, Arora said, it can overcome these difficulties. Also, IT professionals should explore opportunities, Arora noted, to help an organization innovate and grow: “When creating a vision for the future, don’t sell yourself short. When you have a moment, look at the glass half full and put in a roadmap. You don’t have to wait for the opportunity for somebody to give you a cake and create that vision for the future and get buy in from the business leaders.”
